Kopernio prevents PDF from loading in browser from .gov server

Solved

In trying to access PDFs from a government website, Kopernio blocks the PDF from loading in the browser and just spins trying to find available PDFs. This happens with all documents on this server, but never happens with any other server.

I'm able to load the PDFs just fine when I disable Kopernio or open the link in another browser.

Browser: Chrome Version 78.0.3904.108

OS: Windows 10

Kopernio: Version 0.9.4

Example links: https://doi.org/10.6028/NIST.IR.8261-01 resolves to https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/ir/2019/NIST.IR.8261-01.pdf

https://doi.org/10.6028/NIST.SP.1222 resolves to https://nvlpubs.nist.gov/nistpubs/SpecialPublications/NIST.SP.1222.pdf

Hello Stacy,

Thank you for taking the time to report this.

As the DOI links resolve directly to the PDF files, Kopernio can't serve them. The plugin would be able to detect the papers if the DOI links resolved to an HTML page. Unfortunately, Kopernio currently doesn't support this type of PDF delivery.

Hi Virag,

It's not the Kopernio serving that I'm worried about--it's the fact that the Kopernio extension prevents the PDF from loading in the browser when I try to open the URL. That's a usability problem.

Hi Stacy,

Can you please try it with the new version of Kopernio (v0.9.8)? I couldn't reproduce the issue on my end.

Best,

Virag
