An offshore company is an entity that is legally registered outside the country where your major business operation is conducted. Despite many people falsely assuming that offshore companies are only used for money laundering and tax evasion, many global businesses are still setting up offshore companies to reap the multiple benefits available.

‘Cheapness’ of setting up an offshore company depends on the country you choose and your offshore company type.


Tax havens allow your businesses to be freed of corporate income taxes (e.g. Cayman Islands, BVI, Seychelles, and Belize) and most of these countries do not require the companies to file annual returns and disclose directors and shareholders in the public register.
Tax-exempt jurisdictions provide favorable tax arrangements, world-class banking facilities, and a stable business environment (e.g. Hong Kong and Singapore). They don’t belong to tax havens because the companies are subject to a high level of accountability, due diligence, and reporting requirements.
Zero-tax jurisdictions allow you not to pay any corporate taxes because there is no corporate tax (e.g. UAE). Yet, the trade-off for establishing a company in a zero-tax jurisdiction is the costlier business set up fees.
